Guide
Get your business recommended by ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok
Updated · by Rosh Perera
Some customers now ask an AI assistant who to call before they search. You can't pay for a mention or guarantee one, and the answers change from one run to the next. What you can do is check what the assistants say about you and fix wrong or missing facts where they come from. That's the agent's job here: each week it asks the questions your customers ask, logs who gets named and which sources are linked, and flags anything wrong about you. You make the fixes. Google says there are no additional requirements or special optimizations needed to appear in its AI Overviews or AI Mode. The usual basics still apply, including up-to-date Business Profile information and structured data that matches the visible text on the page (Google Search Central). This guide is about checking and fixing facts, not writing blog posts. Time figures here are estimates, not measurements.
Build your check in 1 minute →What to hand to an agent first
Weekly answer check
Give the agent 5 to 10 questions real customers ask, in their own words. Each week it asks them in ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok and Google's AI Mode, through each assistant's own app or official API, and logs who gets named, what's said about you and which sources are linked. Gemini shows a Sources button when a response has links (Gemini Apps Help), and Grok can search the web in real time and return citations (xAI docs). Answers vary between runs and between features (Google Search Central), so look for patterns over several weeks. If your agent can't reach an assistant, it gives you the questions and a log sheet and you paste the answers in (about 15 minutes a week, an estimate).
Fix your Google Business Profile first
When answers get your hours, area or services wrong, start here. Google says businesses with complete and accurate info are more likely to show up in local results, and that there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking (Business Profile Help). Use your real-world business name and a precise address or service area (Business Profile Help).
About and FAQ pages in plain text
The agent drafts a plain About page and an FAQ from your real details: services, areas, hours, how pricing works and what you don't do. Google recommends making sure important content is available in text form (Google Search Central). You check every fact before it goes live.
LocalBusiness markup that matches the page
It drafts LocalBusiness structured data (schema.org) with your name, address, phone and opening hours, following Google's local business structured data guide. Mark up only what readers can see. Google's structured data policies say not to mark up content that's hidden from users or misleading (Google Search Central).
Crawler access and consistent listings
It checks that your robots.txt isn't blocking search crawlers (Google Search Central). OpenAI says sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot won't be shown in ChatGPT search answers, though they can still appear as navigational links (OpenAI docs). Then it lists every directory and social profile where your name, address, phone or hours differ, so you can correct them by hand. Thinking of listing on AI and startup directories too? See what we found in our directory submissions run.

- 01Weekly competitor watch
The agent tracks competitors' pricing, launches and posts and tells you what matters.
~2h/week · estimate - 02Ask every customer for a review, with your OK on each day's list
After each completed job the agent drafts the same friendly review request, with your Google link, for every customer. You approve the day's list in one go, then it sends. It flags any complaint that comes back to you.
~2h/week · estimate - 03FAQ support in your voice, with your OK on every reply
The agent drafts replies to common customer questions from your docs and hands off anything tricky. You approve them one at a time or in a batch. Auto-sending simple FAQ answers is an optional upgrade.
~8h/week · estimate - 04Weekly CEO review & plan
Every Friday the agent compiles wins, numbers, stuck items and proposes next week's priorities.
~2h/week · estimate - 05Metrics digest without opening dashboards
The agent pulls your key numbers from Stripe, analytics and your store into one daily message.

Grok Bot, ChatGPT, Claude and n8n versions: all templates
Setup steps
- Write 5 to 10 questions real customers ask before they'd hire you, in their own words.
- Ask each one in ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok and Google's AI Mode, and log who's named, what's said about you and which sources are linked.
- Fix the facts at the source first: your Google Business Profile, then your About and FAQ pages.
- Add LocalBusiness markup that matches what's on the page, and check robots.txt isn't blocking Googlebot or OAI-SearchBot.
- Repeat the check every week and judge it on the pattern over a month, not on a single answer.
Keep these human
- Nobody can guarantee you'll be mentioned by an AI assistant, so be wary of anyone selling that. Google says that even when a page meets every requirement, indexing and serving aren't guaranteed (Google Search Central).
- Never buy, swap or reward reviews. Google's contribution policy bans paid and incentivized reviews (Google Maps User Contributed Content Policy), and in the US the FTC's rule bans fake consumer reviews (16 CFR 465).
- You don't need special AI files or extra markup. Google says there's no special schema.org structured data you need to add for its AI features (Google Search Central).
- The agent suggests fixes and you make them. Don't give it edit access to your Business Profile or website at the start.
- Start in draft mode: the agent prepares, you approve, then you loosen the leash routine by routine.
