Grok Bot for personal and business accounts: what's shared and how to split them

Updated · by Rosh Perera

One Grok Bot account can handle personal and business work, but separate Bots don't keep them apart: every Bot on the account shares one computer and every connected account. xAI's docs say not to use separate Bots as a security boundary, so the split comes from which accounts you connect. You can connect a work and a personal account for the same service, and every Bot can use both. Here's what the official help says, and how owners can keep the two apart. Grok Bot facts here come from xAI's Grok Bot docs, its Use cases page and changelog, and Cursor's Grok Bot help, checked 20 Oct 2026. Not sure which jobs to hand over first? What to hand to an agent first

  • What every Bot shares

xAI's FAQ: "The computer is assigned per user, not per Bot." Bots "share its files, browser sessions, and logins so they can hand work off." Connected apps work the same way: "A connected app is available to every bot on that Grok Bot account." (xAI's FAQ, Grok Bot help: Connect apps). So a personal Bot and a business Bot can each reach anything the other is signed in to.

  • Work and personal email side by side

xAI's Grok Bot 101 guide: "You can connect multiple accounts per service, so I can look through personal and work email, or check more than one Slack." When you send, "When more than one account could send an email, the Bot asks which address to use, then tells you the address it sent from." (xAI's changelog). Connect the business mailbox first, since that's where most first jobs live.

  • Adding and labelling a second account

Cursor's help gives the steps for apps that offer it: open the app in Connect apps, under Accounts choose Add Another Account, give it a label like work or personal, then tell the Bot which to use: "Use my work Notion." If you don't see Add Another Account for an app, ask hi@cursor.com. And "Every Bot on your Grok Bot account can use every connected account." (Grok Bot help: How-to).

  • Signing in on the Bot's computer

A login you complete on the Bot's computer is shared too: files, browser sessions and command-line credentials there "are available across your Bot roster" (xAI's Approvals docs). Sign in only to accounts every Bot may use, and "Sign out of a service when it should no longer be available." Our website logins guide has the steps.

  • Team Bots ask first

If a teammate shares a Team Bot with you, it doesn't use your accounts silently: "It asks before it uses one of your personal accounts." The card offers Allow once or Always allow (Grok Bot help: Team Bots). That's the only built-in split between people; it isn't a split between your own personal and business work.

  • How owners can keep the two apart

Connect only the business accounts your Bots need, with "scoped service accounts where the source system supports them" (xAI's Approvals docs). Keep personal banking and family accounts off the Bot's computer. Unverified: the official help doesn't describe running two Grok Bot accounts side by side; we haven't confirmed it, so check with hi@cursor.com before relying on it.

  • Start from a template, not a blank page

xAI's Use cases page lists 56 jobs and its official Marketplace lists 90 public templates, as of 20 Oct 2026 (our Grok Bot template stats page). Our templates page has drafts-first versions with copy-ready prompts, and our free What should my bot do? planner picks a first job for a business.

Setup steps

  1. List the accounts your Bots actually need for business work.
  2. Connect your business email and calendar first.
  3. Add a personal account only if a Bot needs it, with a clear label like work or personal.
  4. Sign out of personal sites on the Bot's computer and keep banking off it.
  5. Tell each Bot which labelled account to use, and ask it to remember that.

Keep these human

  • Separate Bots aren't a security boundary; every Bot can use every connected account and every sign-in on the computer (xAI's FAQ, Grok Bot help: How-to).
  • Disconnect Gmail "if a bot should not use that mailbox" (Grok Bot help: Connect apps).
  • Your Bots share one cloud computer, and files and browser sessions on it are available to every Bot (xAI's Approvals docs). Keep bank and payment logins off it at the start.
  • Never paste a password or one-time code in chat. Sign in yourself with Take over, then choose I'm done (xAI's Approvals docs).
  • Start in draft mode: the agent prepares, you approve, then you loosen the leash routine by routine.

FAQ

"Is it OK to log into my personal Claude / ChatGPT (Codex) accounts on Grok Bot's computer?"

Only if every one of your Bots may use them. Sign-ins on the Bot's computer are shared across all your Bots (xAI's Approvals docs), so sign out when a service should no longer be available.

Can I connect a personal and a work email?

Yes. xAI's Grok Bot 101 guide says you can connect multiple accounts per service, including personal and work email. Every Bot on the account can use both (Grok Bot help: How-to).

Does a separate Bot keep my business accounts private?

No. xAI's docs say not to use separate Bots as a security boundary. Bots share the computer, its logins and every connected account (xAI's FAQ).

How do I add a second account?

Open the app in Connect apps, choose Add Another Account under Accounts, label it, and authorize (Grok Bot help: How-to). If the option isn't there, ask hi@cursor.com.

How do I tell the Bot which account to use?

By its label, for example "Use my work Notion." Ask the Bot to remember it so you don't repeat it (Grok Bot help: How-to).

Will a teammate's Team Bot use my personal accounts?

Not without asking. It shows Allow once or Always allow before it uses one of your personal accounts (Grok Bot help: Team Bots).
