Grok Bot vs Claude Cowork: which AI coworker should a small business use? (Oct 2026)
Updated · by Rosh Perera
Both are AI helpers you hand real work to, not just chat. Both can run jobs on a schedule and keep going when your laptop is closed. The difference is the shape. Grok Bot gives you Bots: teammates with one job each, sharing a cloud computer that signs in to your tools (x.ai). Claude Cowork is where you hand Claude a task inside the Claude app. It works in the folders and apps you choose, then hands back finished work for your review (Anthropic). Anthropic says Cowork is becoming part of everyday Claude, rolling out to Pro and Max first. This comparison uses only xAI's and Anthropic's own pages, checked 18 Oct 2026. Prices and features change, so check both before you pay. We're independent and earn no commission from either. We do sell our own templates, which work with both. Which AI agent would you trust to handle your daily work?
Price (list prices, 18 Oct 2026)
Grok Bot: Premium is $30 a month, Super $100 and Ultra $200. Each includes weekly Grok Bot usage, and extra usage is billed on token cost (x.ai). Included usage is 4x the Plus plan for Premium, 15x for Super and 50x for Ultra (xAI's X Subscription pricing docs). xAI's pages differ on this; check x.ai/pricing for current usage figures. Claude: Pro is $20 a month, or $17 a month billed yearly. Max is $100 or $200 a month, for 5x or 20x Pro's usage. Team standard seats are $20 a seat a month billed yearly, or $25 monthly (Anthropic). Cowork is included on paid Claude plans, and Anthropic says it uses your limits faster than chat.
How you hand over work
Grok Bot: you make a Bot for one job, write its rules in plain words, and can show it the job once so it saves a routine (x.ai, Grok Bot 101). Claude Cowork: you describe the result you want, Claude makes a plan and works through it, and you can step in and steer at any point (Claude Help Center).
Scheduled jobs
Both do them. Grok Bot routines run on a schedule or start from events in other apps, and Bots keep working 24/7 with your laptop closed (x.ai, Grok Bot 101). Claude Cowork's scheduled tasks run in the cloud, with no device online (Claude Help Center).
Approvals and drafts
Grok Bot: email and Slack drafts wait on a card for Send or Discard, and a Bot checks with you before sending, posting, buying or deleting (Grok Bot changelog). Claude Cowork: Manual mode asks before actions, Auto mode lets Claude decide on changes after a safety check, and Claude asks before it permanently deletes files. For money, messages sent as you and important files, Anthropic suggests staying close or switching back to Manual (Claude Help Center).
Where it works
Grok Bot works from the desktop app (macOS, Windows or Linux) or the phone app (iOS, or Android 9 or later), on one shared cloud computer with its own browser and logins (x.ai, xAI's FAQ). Claude Cowork runs in the Claude desktop app, with web and mobile in beta, and the desktop app adds the files and apps on your own computer (Anthropic).
Which fits your business
Pick Grok Bot if you want a few standing teammates, each with one repeating job across your work apps, such as a morning summary Bot and an inbox Bot. Pick Claude Cowork if you already pay for Claude and most of your work is one-off or weekly tasks that end in a file, like a report, a spreadsheet or a tidied folder. Either way, start with one job, drafts only. If you'd rather build your own agent in code, see our first AI agent in Claude Code guide.

Example: Grok Bot setup
Grok Bot routine: CEO morning brief in 5 minutes Schedule: Daily 7:30 Every morning, read my calendar for today, my unread emails from the last 24h and yesterday's revenue. Send me a brief: (1) meetings with one prep note each, (2) emails that need my reply with a suggested one-line answer, (3) money in/out, (4) the 3 highest-leverage tasks for today. Keep it under 200 words. Rules: draft first, never send or post anything external without my approval. Keep summaries short.

Setup steps
- Pick one real job you do every week, like a Monday list of overdue invoices.
- Write it down in five lines: what to read, what to make, where to put it, and what it must never do.
- Run it in the tool you already pay for, drafts only, for one week.
- Write down what you had to fix each time.
- Only then try the other tool on the same job, and compare the fixes, not the demos.
Keep these human
- Both can act in your accounts. Keep anything sent in your name, paid for or deleted on approval, in either tool.
- Grok Bot's Disable drafts for this Bot button and Cowork's Skip all approvals mode both remove the check. Anthropic says to use Skip only when you completely trust every action involved (Claude Help Center). Leave both off.
- Agent work uses your plan faster than chat in both. Anthropic says Cowork uses limits faster than chat, and Grok Bot bills usage beyond the weekly allowance on token cost (x.ai). Our usage limits guide has habits that help.
- Prices here are list prices from 18 Oct 2026, before tax, and can differ by region or app store.
- We haven't measured either tool on a business's work, so any time saved is an estimate.

FAQ
Is Claude Cowork the same as Claude Code?
No. Anthropic says Claude Code is built for writing and fixing software, and Cowork is built for non-coding work like research, analysis and documents. They use the same approach under the hood (Anthropic).
Which is cheaper for a small business?
Entry prices on 18 Oct 2026: Claude Pro is $20 a month ($17 billed yearly) and Grok Bot Premium is $30 a month. Both have usage limits, and agent work uses them faster than chat, so your real cost depends on how much you hand off. Check both pricing pages before you pay.
Can either one work while my computer is off?
Yes. xAI says Bots keep working 24/7 with your laptop closed (x.ai). Anthropic says Cowork's scheduled tasks run in the cloud with no device online. Jobs that need files on your own computer need that computer on (Claude Help Center).
Which one is safer?
Neither is safe by default for jobs that send or spend money. Both let you require approval. Keep Grok Bot's drafts on, and keep Cowork in Manual mode for anything your customers will see.
Do your templates work with both?
Yes. Our free templates come in Grok Bot and Claude formats. The $29 One-Person AI Business Pack has its routines in Grok Bot, ChatGPT, Claude and n8n formats, plus a guardrail block with escalation rules and a 7-day install plan.
