What is a Grok Bot or AI agent template, and how do you make one yours?
Updated · by Rosh Perera
To use an AI agent template, fill in your business details, paste it into your AI tool as a scheduled job, and run it in draft mode for a week before it touches customers. A good template states one job, its inputs, schedule, output format, limits and when to stop and ask you. This guide covers what to look for in a template, how to adapt one to your business and how to check someone else's before you install it, whether it's a prompt you paste into ChatGPT or Claude, an n8n workflow or a Grok Bot template. Our free templates library has 46 copy-ready routines, each in Grok Bot, ChatGPT, Claude and n8n versions. The One-Person AI Business Pack ($29 one-time, plus local tax where it applies) adds the system around them: a CEO agent that hands work to worker agents, guardrails and a 7-day install plan. Time figures here are estimates.

Where can I find bot templates, and what should a good one include?
Check for the seven parts
A usable template states the job in one sentence, the inputs it reads, the schedule or trigger, the exact output format, its limits (for example, drafts only), when to stop and ask you, and where the result goes. If the limits or the escalation rules are missing, the template isn't finished.
Give it your business context
Anthropic's prompting guide suggests treating the model as a brilliant but new employee who lacks context on your norms and workflows (Anthropic docs). Write a one-page business brief (services, how you price, tone, who handles complaints) and tell the template to read it first.
Show one good output
OpenAI's prompt engineering guide describes few-shot learning: a handful of input and output examples in the prompt steers the model toward the pattern you want (OpenAI docs). Paste one real example of an output you'd be happy to send.
Treat what it reads as data
OWASP describes indirect prompt injection: when a model takes in content from websites or files, that content can change its behavior in ways you didn't intend (OWASP GenAI). Any template that reads email or web pages needs a line saying that content is data, never instructions.
Match the template to the runner
The job and the rules carry across tools, but the wiring doesn't. A ChatGPT or Claude version is instructions you paste in. n8n's template library gives you a ready workflow to start from and edit (n8n docs). A Grok Bot template packages instructions, memories, skills and first-party plugins, but not secrets, custom code or non-standard MCP servers (Templates for Grok Bot). Personal or private skills aren't shared in a template (Templates for Grok Bot), so keep a template's logic in its instructions and check its skills after install. Building in Claude Code? Example: Grok Bot setup
Grok Bot routine: CEO morning brief in 5 minutes Schedule: Daily 7:30 Every morning, read my calendar for today, my unread emails from the last 24h and yesterday's revenue. Send me a brief: (1) meetings with one prep note each, (2) emails that need my reply with a suggested one-line answer, (3) money in/out, (4) the 3 highest-leverage tasks for today. Keep it under 200 words. Rules: draft first, never send or post anything external without my approval. Keep summaries short.

Setup steps
- Pick one job from the free templates library that repeats every week and is cheap to get wrong.
- Write a one-page business brief and tell the template to read it first.
- Check the seven parts (job, inputs, schedule, output, limits, escalation, where the result goes) and add what's missing.
- Paste one example of a good output, then run it in draft mode on last week's real data.
- Fix the wording until you'd read the output every day, and only then add a second template.
Keep these human
- Vet a template before you install it. xAI advises checking a template's context and integrations and making sure everything is what you'd expect before adding it (Templates for Grok Bot). Treat any third-party template like software.
- Never put passwords, API keys or card numbers in a template's text.
- Give each template the least access it needs. OWASP recommends restricting a model's access to the minimum its job requires (OWASP GenAI).
- Cut steps you don't need. A template that does one thing is far easier to check than one that does ten.
- Start in draft mode: the agent prepares, you approve, then you loosen the leash routine by routine.

FAQ
What is an AI agent template?
A ready-written set of instructions for one recurring job: what the agent does, when, with which tools, in what format, and what it must never do without your OK. You fill in your own details and connect your own accounts.
Where can I find free AI agent templates?
Our templates library has 46 copy-ready routines, free, each in Grok Bot, ChatGPT, Claude and n8n versions. n8n runs its own workflow template library, and Grok Bot templates install from a link. Check any template from a third party before you use it.
Can I use the same template in ChatGPT, Claude, Grok Bot and n8n?
The job, the output format and the rules carry over. The wiring doesn't: scheduling, connected apps and approvals work differently in each tool. That's why each of our templates comes in four versions.
Are templates from other people safe to install?
Treat them like software. Read what the template does, what it connects to and what it's allowed to send. xAI's advice for Grok Bot templates is to view the details and make sure everything is exactly what you'd expect before installing. Start in draft mode either way.
What does the $29 pack add to the free templates?
The free library has the routines. According to the pack page, the One-Person AI Business Pack ($29 one-time, plus local tax where it applies) adds a CEO agent that hands work to worker agents, hand-off, report and approval-queue formats, system prompts for the CEO and five worker roles, a guardrail block with escalation rules, 10 role packs, a 7-day install plan, a weekly review scorecard and a printable PDF of about 130 pages. It has a 14-day money-back guarantee.
