Can Grok Bot edit videos? What it accepts, what it can do, and the limits

Updated · by Rosh Perera

Yes, with tools on its computer. Cursor's docs list video among supported inputs, and xAI's 14 Oct changelog says "You can attach files up to 250 MB and videos up to 1 GB, and the Bot says when a video is too large to watch." (xAI's changelog).

The docs name no built-in video editor, so check every result yourself before you post it. Not sure video is the right first task? Take our free quiz. We're an independent site, not part of xAI or Cursor.

What can Grok Bot do with your videos?

  • What you can send

Cursor's docs: "Supported inputs include images, audio, video, PDFs, Office documents, CSV, JSON, YAML, source code, HTML, email files, and notebooks." (Cursor docs: Grok Bot work). The current size limits come from xAI's changelog: "You can attach files up to 250 MB and videos up to 1 GB, and the Bot says when a video is too large to watch." "Requires Grok Bot 0.70.2 or later." (xAI's changelog). Our files guide has the full list of limits.

  • Realistic editing tasks

Trimming the start and end of a clip, adding captions from a transcript, writing a cut list with timestamps, pulling short clips for social posts, converting formats, and making a thumbnail from a frame. The Bot does this with tools on its computer, so describe the result you want and the length.

  • Grok Bot vs Grok Imagine

Grok Bot works with files you give it. Grok Imagine generates new images and video. If you want a new clip made from a prompt, that's Imagine; if you want your footage cut, that's a Bot. Our Grok Imagine guide covers how the two fit.

  • Getting the results back

Ask for the finished file in the chat, plus a short note of what changed. If a Bot hands the work to a Cloud Agent, "the Bot copies the images, videos, and other files cited in the Cloud Agent's final report to its computer and attaches them to its reply." (xAI's Files and results docs). Keep source footage in /workspace, and note xAI's advice: "Treat temporary directories, manually installed packages, and uncommitted application state as replaceable." (xAI's Computer and apps docs).

  • A review checklist before posting

Watch the whole edit once. Check captions against the audio, check names and prices on screen, confirm music and footage are yours to use, and keep publishing behind an Ask first rule.

  3. 03One daily list of drafts to approve
Your bots hold every email, message and post they write as a draft. Once a day (or once a week) you get one numbered list and answer approve, edit or reject for each. Nothing goes out unapproved.

Example: Grok Bot setup

Grok Bot routine: Repurpose one piece into ten
Schedule: When you publish

When I publish a long piece, repurpose it into: 1 X thread, 3 standalone X posts, 2 LinkedIn posts, 3 short-video scripts and 1 newsletter section. Queue drafts in my scheduler for approval.

Rules: draft first, never send or post anything external without my approval. Keep summaries short.

What to check

  • Keep publishing behind your approval. xAI's Approvals docs list publishing content among actions to keep behind an explicit boundary.
  • Don't upload footage of customers or staff without their permission.
