How to connect Google Drive to Grok Bot (read, never share)

Updated · by Rosh Perera

This guide is for owners who don't code. A connector is the link that lets your Bot use one of your apps, here Google Drive. Once Drive is connected, your Bot can read your price list, job sheets and receipts, and save new files for you. The safe way to start is simple. The Bot reads only the folders you name. It saves its work as new files in one folder called Bot drafts. It never deletes, moves or shares anything without your OK. Sharing matters most: a shared file can be opened by anyone it's shared with. If you haven't made your first Bot yet, start with our Grok Bot setup guide. Facts come from xAI's and Google's own pages, checked 18 Oct 2026. If a button looks different, check the current app. We're an independent site, not part of xAI.

What to hand to an agent first

  • Ask your Bot to connect Drive

Open a chat with your Bot and type: connect my Google Drive. xAI's support guide says you tell the Bot what to connect, click Authorize, which means you give it permission, then finish in your browser (Grok Bot for Support). You can also use Connect apps in the sidebar (Grok Bot changelog). Bots can save files to Google Drive (Grok Bot changelog).

  • Read Google's screen before you agree

Google lists what the app asks for. Some access covers only files you pick or the app creates. Other access covers all your Drive files (Google Drive permissions list). Read which one you're giving. If it's all files, the folder rule below matters even more.

  • Make a Bot drafts folder

In Drive, make one folder called Bot drafts. Tell the Bot to save everything it makes there, and to read only the folders you name, such as Price list and Receipts.

  • Give your Bot the read-never-share rule

Rules go in Settings → General → Auto-review, in plain words (Grok Bot 101, xAI's Approvals docs). Before anything it can't undo, like deleting, a Bot checks with you first (Grok Bot changelog). Add the rule from the setup steps below.

  • Use it for paperwork first

Good first jobs: draft a quote from your price list, or list last month's receipts for your bookkeeper. Our free templates have Monthly bookkeeping prep. You check the file in Bot drafts before anyone else sees it.

Setup steps

  1. In Google Drive, make a folder called Bot drafts.
  2. In Grok Bot, open a chat with the Bot that does paperwork. Type: connect my Google Drive. Click Authorize and sign in to your work Google account in the browser.
  3. Read what Google's screen says the app can reach: only some files, or all of them. If you're unsure, stop and check the current app.
  4. Open Settings → General → Auto-review. Paste: "Drive is read and draft only. Read only the folders I name. Save new files only in Bot drafts. Never delete, move, rename or share a file, or change who can see it, without my OK."
  5. Test it. Ask: read my price list and save a draft quote for a standard job in Bot drafts. Open the file and check it. Don't share it.

Keep these human

  • Read-never-share means the Bot may read the folders you name and save new files in Bot drafts. It never deletes, moves, renames or shares a file, and never changes who can see it, without your OK.
  • Sharing a Drive file lets other people view, comment on or edit it, depending on the setting (Google Drive Help). Keep every share in your hands.
  • Keep ID documents, bank details and staff records out of the folders the Bot reads.
  • Your Bots share one computer, so a login added for one Bot can be used by the others (Grok Bot 101). Connect Drive only where it's needed.
  • Check what has access to your Google account now and then on Google's linked apps page, and remove what you don't use (Google Account Help).

FAQ

What can Grok Bot do with my Google Drive?

Once connected, it can read files and save new ones. xAI's changelog says Bots can save files to Google Drive. With the read-never-share rule, it reads only what you name and saves only to Bot drafts.

Can it share my files with customers?

Not with this rule. Sharing lets other people open or edit a file, so you do it yourself after you've checked the file.

Will it see every file in my Drive?

That depends on what you agree to on Google's screen. Some access covers only certain files; other access covers all of them (Google Drive permissions list). Either way, tell the Bot which folders it may read.

How do I disconnect Google Drive?

Remove it in Grok Bot, then remove its access on Google's linked apps page in your Google account (Google Account Help). The exact Grok Bot button may move, so check the current app.

Is there a ready-made paperwork setup?

Our free templates include Monthly bookkeeping prep and a proposal writer, and the free Starter Kit has four copy-paste agent prompts. The One-Person AI Business Pack ($29 one-time, plus local tax where it applies) adds a guardrail block with escalation rules and a 7-day install plan, and the pack page offers a done-for-you setup of one workflow ($149 one-time, plus local tax where it applies).
