Grok Bot setup guide: where to start, first Bot and routines
Updated · by Rosh Perera
Start with Grok Bot by picking a plan and installing the app, then create one Bot with one low-risk job, give it the accounts it may use and the rules it must follow, and test the job once before you schedule it. Grok Bot is xAI's product for AI teammates. Your Bots work on one cloud computer that they all share, assigned to you rather than to each Bot (xAI's FAQ). They sign in to the tools you use, run routines on a schedule and come back when your approval is needed (x.ai). That's a different shape from a chat assistant, so the setup is different too. This guide walks through that setup for a small business, using only facts from xAI's public pages, checked 18 Oct 2026. It's an independent guide: WhatShouldMyBotDo isn't part of xAI. For the jobs themselves, our free templates come in Grok Bot format, and the One-Person AI Business Pack ($29 one-time, plus local tax where it applies) has all 46 routines plus a chief-of-staff setup that hands work to worker Bots. Time figures are estimates.

Pick a plan and install the app
xAI's Grok Bot page lists Premium at $30 a month, Super at $100 and Ultra at $200, each with weekly Grok Bot usage included and extra usage billed on token cost (x.ai). xAI's pricing docs put included usage at 4x the Plus plan for Premium, 15x for Super and 50x for Ultra (xAI's X Subscription pricing docs, x.ai/pricing). xAI's pages differ on this; check x.ai/pricing for current usage figures. Older paid Cursor plans, Cursor Teams and a linked SuperGrok or X Premium+ account also include it (Grok Bot help: Plans and billing), and xAI's FAQ says Enterprise access is rolling out. You work with it from the desktop app (macOS, Windows or Linux) or the phone app (iOS, or Android 9 or later) (xAI's FAQ). Not sure it's worth paying for yet? Run our two-week worth-it test first.
Create one Bot with one job
xAI's Get started docs say to give a new Bot a short name, one primary job and a description of how it should work (xAI's Get started docs). Cursor's current help says personal Bots no longer have a description, so put how it should work in your first message instead: what to do, which sources to use and when to ask you, then ask it to remember that (Grok Bot help: Onboarding, Grok Bot help: Edit a Bot). Describe the workflow exactly as you'd do it yourself (Grok Bot 101). Start with one low-risk job, such as a weekday morning brief, rather than a Bot that does everything. If you've only used the Grok chat app so far, read Grok vs Grok Bot to see what changes.
Write the rules before you connect accounts
You write a Bot's rules in plain language in Settings → General → Auto-review (xAI's Approvals docs). A separate review agent checks proposed actions and can allow them, block them or escalate them to you, and allow and block lists steer it (Grok Bot 101). Before an action it can't undo, such as sending, posting, buying or deleting, a Bot checks your messages for approval (Grok Bot changelog).
Connect only what the job needs
Grok Bot supports the same MCP servers, plugins and skills as Cursor, and you can connect more than one account per service (Grok Bot 101). Every Bot you create shares one persistent cloud computer, including its browser logins, so a site one Bot is signed in to is reachable by your other Bots too (x.ai). Give the first Bot only the logins its job needs.
Test it once, then schedule it
Have the Bot do the job once and check the result before you schedule it. Where Teach a task is available, you can record one browser workflow of up to ten minutes instead, and the Bot turns it into a draft skill for you to review and test. xAI says Teach a task may roll out gradually (xAI's FAQ, Skills and routines docs). Routines can run on a schedule or trigger on events from other apps (Grok Bot 101). Before you put several routines on tight schedules, our free Grok Bot usage planner shows how many runs a week they add up to. Templates let you install someone else's Bot from a link, but they don't carry secrets, custom code or non-standard MCP servers, so expect to reconnect a few things (Templates for Grok Bot). xAI's template guide says first-party plugins and skills are included, but personal or private skills aren't shared (Templates for Grok Bot). After you install one, check its skills against the preview.

Grok Bot routine: CEO morning brief in 5 minutes Schedule: Daily 7:30 Every morning, read my calendar for today, my unread emails from the last 24h and yesterday's revenue. Send me a brief: (1) meetings with one prep note each, (2) emails that need my reply with a suggested one-line answer, (3) money in/out, (4) the 3 highest-leverage tasks for today. Keep it under 200 words. Rules: draft first, never send or post anything external without my approval. Keep summaries short.

Setup steps
- Check that your plan includes Grok Bot (Premium, Super or Ultra, an older paid Cursor plan or Cursor Teams, or a linked SuperGrok or X Premium+ account; Enterprise access is rolling out), then install the desktop app or the iOS or Android app.
- Create one Bot with a short name and one primary job, such as a weekday morning brief, then tell it how to work in your first message and ask it to remember (Grok Bot help: Onboarding).
- Write its rules in Settings → General → Auto-review: draft first, and ask before sending, posting, paying or deleting anything.
- Connect only the accounts that job needs, then have the Bot do the job once and check the result. Where Teach a task is available, you can record it instead and review the draft skill it makes.
- Turn it into a routine on a schedule, review a week of output, and only then add a second Bot or a template.
Keep these human
- Anything a Bot is signed in to, it can act in. xAI's own guide points out that if you're logged in to Amazon on a computer the agent can use, it could technically buy things (Grok Bot 101). Keep banking and payment accounts out at the start.
- Because your Bots share one computer, a login added for one Bot is available to the others (x.ai). Use separate, limited accounts where your tools allow it.
- Read a template's context and integrations before you add it. xAI's advice is to be very careful about what you install (Templates for Grok Bot).
- Keep anything customer-facing, public or financial on approval. Email a Bot sends from its own address waits for your approval on a draft card (Grok Bot changelog).
- Start in draft mode: the agent prepares, you approve, then you loosen the leash routine by routine.

FAQ
How much does Grok Bot cost?
On xAI's Grok Bot page, checked 18 Oct 2026: Premium is $30 a month, Super $100 and Ultra $200, billed monthly, each with weekly Grok Bot usage included and extra usage billed on token cost. It's also included with older paid Cursor plans, Cursor Teams and linked SuperGrok or X Premium+ accounts (Grok Bot help: Plans and billing), and xAI's FAQ says Enterprise access is rolling out. Prices change, so check x.ai before you subscribe.
How is Grok Bot different from a chat assistant?
Bots work on a cloud computer that all your Bots share, assigned to you rather than to each Bot (xAI's FAQ), so they can work inside your apps and tools. xAI says they run in parallel, 24/7, even when your laptop is closed (x.ai). A chat assistant answers you in a conversation; a Bot is set up to do a recurring job and report back.
Do I need to code to set up Grok Bot?
No. You set a Bot up by chatting with it or in Settings, and where Teach a task is available, it can turn one recorded workflow into a draft skill for you to review and test (xAI's FAQ). Adding custom MCP servers is more technical, and it's optional.
Is it safe to connect my email and other accounts?
xAI says your cloud computer is encrypted in transit and at rest, with a training opt-out, and that sensitive actions can go through Auto Review before they run. The rest is up to your setup: connect the fewest accounts you can, keep sends and payments on approval, and remember that logins are shared across your Bots.
Where can I get ready-made instructions for a Bot?
xAI has a gallery of ready-made Bots and an installable template format. Our free templates include Grok Bot versions of 46 small-business routines, and the free Starter Kit has four copy-paste agent prompts. The One-Person AI Business Pack ($29 one-time, plus local tax where it applies) adds a CEO agent that hands work to worker agents, a guardrail block and a 7-day install plan. The pack page also offers a done-for-you setup of one workflow ($149 one-time, plus local tax where it applies).
