Connect Notion to Grok Bot: workspaces, what your Bots can reach, and a read-first setup

Updated · by Rosh Perera

Owners on X this week connected Notion to Grok Bot for shared workspaces and project pages, and one asked how to limit what Grok Bot can reach in a Notion workspace. This guide covers connecting Notion, adding a second workspace, what your Bots can reach, Notion cards and links in the chat, a read-first setup, how to undo an edit, and what to do when a Bot says Notion is missing. Grok Bot facts come from Cursor's Grok Bot help, xAI's Grok Bot docs and xAI's changelog, and Notion facts from Notion's own help pages, checked 19 Oct 2026. We're an independent site, not part of xAI or Notion.

What to hand to an agent first

  • Connect Notion

In Grok Bot, choose Connect apps in the sidebar, or follow an in-chat Connect card, and add Notion. Choose Authenticate and finish the Notion login in your browser (Grok Bot help: Connect apps). Added means the app is installed, not that you're signed in. If Notion shows Needs auth or Disconnected, open it and choose Authenticate, or Authorize on the phone (Grok Bot help: Connect apps). App connections belong to the same account you used to sign in to Grok Bot (Grok Bot help: Connect apps).

  • Two Notion workspaces

Notion can connect a second account, such as two Notion workspaces. Open Notion in Connect apps, choose Add Another Account under Accounts, give it a label like work or personal, and choose Authorize to sign in. On the phone, choose Authorize new account. Then tell the Bot which one to use by its label, for example "Use my work Notion." Every Bot on your Grok Bot account can use every connected account (Grok Bot help: How-tos).

  • What your Bots can reach

Cursor's help says: "An app uses the account you authorize. It can do only what that account can already do in that service. It cannot raise your access, and it cannot change sharing." A connected app is available to every Bot on your Grok Bot account (Grok Bot help: Connect apps). In practice, your Bots can reach the Notion pages your connected Notion account can reach. Cursor's help doesn't describe a way to limit it to some pages, so if you want less reach, connect a Notion account or workspace that only has the pages you want your Bots to see.

  • Notion cards and links in the chat

Connectors that come with an app, such as Notion, can show it as an interactive card in the chat, and Bots accept Notion links (xAI's changelog, 11 Oct). Link cards and previews show real titles for private Notion pages using your connected accounts (xAI's changelog, 18 Sep). So you can paste a Notion link into a chat and ask the Bot to work on that page, instead of describing where it is.

  • A read-first setup

Our suggested setup, not xAI's: start with jobs that only read. For example: "Using Notion, read the Projects page and list anything overdue. Don't edit anything." When that works, let the Bot write in one page or database you've set aside for it. xAI's docs list deleting or overwriting data among the actions to keep behind explicit boundaries (xAI's Approvals docs), so add an Ask first rule for deleting or overwriting pages under Settings → General → Auto-review. xAI's docs also say individual plugin tools can be enabled or disabled (xAI's Settings docs), so check the Notion plugin under Your plugins in Connect apps if you want a read-only setup.

  • Undo an edit with version history

Notion's help says that to see a page's version history you need at least Can edit access. Click ••• at the top of the page, choose Version history, open the version you want and click Restore (Notion Help). How far back you can go depends on your Notion plan: 7 days on Free, 30 days on Plus, 90 days on Business, and any number of days on Enterprise (Notion Help). Deleted pages stay in Trash for 30 days by default before they're permanently deleted (Notion Help). Restoring a database brings back its pages and properties, but not the text inside those pages (Notion Help), so test database edits on a copy first.

  • When the Bot says Notion is missing

If a Bot says it can't find Notion, open Notion in Connect apps and check it isn't showing Needs auth or Disconnected. Choose Authenticate if it is (Grok Bot help: Connect apps). If the page is in another workspace, connect that workspace as a second account and tell the Bot which one to use (Grok Bot help: How-tos). If it can read a page but not change it, your Notion account may not have edit access to that page, and the app can't raise your access (Grok Bot help: Connect apps). Our connectors list covers the other apps you can connect. Not sure which Notion job to start with? Our free What should my bot do? planner picks three in 5 quick questions.

Setup steps

  1. In Grok Bot, open Connect apps, add Notion and choose Authenticate (Grok Bot help: Connect apps).
  2. Check Notion doesn't show Needs auth or Disconnected (Grok Bot help: Connect apps).
  3. For a second workspace, choose Add Another Account, label it and Authorize (Grok Bot help: How-tos).
  4. Ask for one read-only job first, and tell the Bot not to edit anything.
  5. Add an Ask first rule for deleting or overwriting pages under Settings → General → Auto-review (xAI's Approvals docs).
  6. If an edit goes wrong, open ••• then Version history on the page and Restore an earlier version (Notion Help).

Keep these human

  • A connected Notion account is available to every Bot on your Grok Bot account, not just one (Grok Bot help: Connect apps).
  • Your Bots can reach what your connected Notion account can reach. Connect an account or workspace with only the pages you want them to see (Grok Bot help: Connect apps).
  • Start with read-only jobs, and add an Ask first rule for deleting or overwriting pages (xAI's Approvals docs).
  • Version history only goes back so far on each Notion plan, and restoring a database doesn't restore the text inside its pages. Test edits on a copy (Notion Help).
  • Start in draft mode: the agent prepares, you approve, then you loosen the leash routine by routine.
