Connect a bank or card to Grok Bot: what is and isn't possible
Updated · by Rosh Perera
Owners ask for detailed steps to "connect AMEX and my bank" from the desktop Grok Bot app (user report, 26 Oct 2026). There is no public "Connect Amex" or "Connect Chase" app in Connect apps that we can document as a bank-feed product on 27 Oct 2026.
What Cursor and xAI do document: Vault for logins, cards, and contact info (Cursor Secrets / Vault help, Grok Bot 0.75.2+); Take over for passwords, 2FA, CAPTCHAs, and payment or identity checks (xAI computer-and-apps; approvals); and Ask first / approval cards before purchases and financial transfers (xAI approvals). This page sticks to those paths. Money / X Money product how-tos that need fresh product news stay on HOLD (P404 / P440). Our purchases guide covers paying with documented wallets. Our free Grok Bot usage check ranks which Bots and routines are most likely eating your week. We're an independent site, not part of xAI or Cursor.
Key points
- Vault cards: are for checkout fill-in (number, expiry, CVC, billing). The Bot never sees the saved card number (Cursor Secrets help). Saving a card does not require your approval each time it is used - remove the card if you want to approve every payment yourself (Secrets help).
- Vault logins: can store a bank or card-issuer website login (https site, username, password) so the Bot can open that site. Same shared-Vault rule: every Bot on your account can use it (Secrets help; our website-logins guide).
- There is no documented read-only bank-feed connector: for Amex/Chase/etc. in the Connect apps pages we checked. Treat "connect my bank" as website login + browser work, not as an automatic balance API we invent.
- Take over: for 2FA, CAPTCHA, and payment confirms. Do not paste passwords or one-time codes in chat (xAI approvals; computer-and-apps).
- Purchases and financial transfers: stay behind explicit boundaries and approval cards (xAI approvals). Prefer drafts and Ask first for anything that moves money.
Safe ways to let a Bot use a card or bank site
Checkout card you control: Vault Card, then Ask first for buys
Settings > Vault > New item > Card (Secrets help). Add an Ask first rule for purchases under Settings > General > Auto-review (approvals). Or leave the card out of Vault and use a Secure Form only for that chat (Secrets help: leave "Securely save to Bot's vault" unchecked).
Bank or issuer website (statements, read-only browse): Vault Login + Take over
Settings > Vault > Login for the bank's https site. Ask one Bot: open the site, list recent transactions or download a statement to /workspace, do not transfer, pay, or change settings. When 2FA appears, Take over, finish the code yourself, I'm done, then continue (computer-and-apps).
Label the Vault entry
Under Hints, write when to use it (for example "work Amex portal, read-only"). The Bot uses hints when picking entries (Secrets help).
Keep money moves human
Tell the Bot in chat (and ask it to remember): never transfer, pay a bill, open credit, or change beneficiaries without Ask first. Approvals docs list purchases and financial transfers among actions that need explicit boundaries.
Prefer Connect apps for books when one exists
For bookkeeping prep, prefer documented connectors (for example QuickBooks guides on this site) over long bank-site scrapes when an app exists (xAI computer-and-apps: prefer an app when available).
Remove access when the job ends
Settings > Vault > Remove the login or card. Sign out of the bank site on the shared computer if other Bots should not keep the session (computer-and-apps; website-logins).

Ready-made use cases
- 01CEO morning brief in 5 minutes
One message each morning: calendar, urgent emails, money in/out, and the 3 things that move the business today.
~3h/week · estimate - 02One daily list of drafts to approve
Your bots hold every email, message and post they write as a draft. Once a day (or once a week) you get one numbered list and answer approve, edit or reject for each. Nothing goes out unapproved.
~1h/week · estimate
Example: Grok Bot setup
Grok Bot routine: CEO morning brief in 5 minutes Schedule: Daily 7:30 Every morning, read my calendar for today, my unread emails from the last 24h and yesterday's revenue. Send me a brief: (1) meetings with one prep note each, (2) emails that need my reply with a suggested one-line answer, (3) money in/out, (4) the 3 highest-leverage tasks for today. Keep it under 200 words. Rules: draft first, never send or post anything external without my approval. Keep summaries short.

What should you keep in mind?
- Do not paste a full card number, bank password, or SMS code into ordinary chat (approvals; Secrets).
- Vault is account-wide. Do not store a bank login if another Bot on the account should never see that session (Secrets help; computer-and-apps).
- We do not document workarounds past a bank's bot checks. If the bank blocks automation, Take over or do the step yourself (xAI FAQ pattern; computer-and-apps).
- HOLD: dedicated X Money / bank-link product guides that need P404 / P440 news. Link our purchases guide for wallet checkout that is already documented.
- Bank and tax logins are high-risk on a shared computer. Prefer one Bot, drafts-only summaries, and human confirmation before any payment.

FAQ
How do I connect Amex and my bank in the desktop Grok Bot app?
There is no Connect-apps "Amex" bank-feed we can cite. Save the issuer site as a Vault Login (and a Vault Card only if you want checkout fill-in), then ask one Bot to open the site read-only and Take over for 2FA (Secrets help; computer-and-apps).
Can Grok Bot see my card number?
No. Saved Vault cards are not shown to the Bot (Secrets help). Still keep purchases behind Ask first (approvals).
Will the Bot transfer money if I save a bank login?
Only if you allow a transfer action. Set Ask first for payments and financial transfers, and write a memory rule that forbids transfers without your OK (approvals). Saving a login is not the same as approving a payment.
Is this the same as X Money?
No. This page is Vault + website login + approvals. For paying with documented wallets, see our purchases guide. Fresh Money-feature how-tos stay on HOLD until product docs are clear.
