Grok Bot desktop won't launch on Windows after an update

If Grok Bot won't open on one Windows PC after today's desktop update, and that PC no longer shows as a connected computer, while your other PCs or Mac still work, staff say a half-finished Windows install can remove the old app before the new one is written (Cursor forum, @Colin, 24 Oct 2026: https://forum.cursor.com/t/grok-bot-desktop-app-wont-launch-on-one-windows-pc-after-todays-update/175946).

Reinstall Grok Bot on the broken Windows PC

  • Download the current Windows installer

    Open the official Grok Bot download page: https://cursor.com/download/bot (also linked from xAI get-started: "Open the Grok Bot downloads page"). Choose Windows (x64) or Windows (ARM64) for that PC (Settings > System > About > System type if unsure; xAI get-started).

  • Run the installer

    You do not need to uninstall first (Colin, 24 Oct). Leave the AppData Grok Bot folder alone.

  • Open Grok Bot and sign in if asked

    Staff: the PC should show up as a connected computer for your Bot again.

  • Fix a dead taskbar icon

    Unpin the old shortcut and pin the newly installed app (Colin).

  • If it still won't open

    Staff said Grok Bot does not keep a local install log on Windows. Reply to support (or the forum thread) with any error message and whether `Grok Bot.exe` is in `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Grok Bot` (Colin).
