Why does X block my Grok Bot from signing in, and can it post for my business?
Updated · by Rosh Perera
Some sites block traffic from cloud computers, and when a sign-in is blocked, Grok Bot should hand you that step instead of getting around it. For research, the Bot reads public X with no sign-in at all. For your DMs or timeline, connect the X plugin. Keep posting yourself, with the Bot drafting. Why does X block a Grok Bot's sign-in, and what works instead?
For research, the Bot doesn't need to sign in
xAI says Bots can search and read public X without you connecting an account: posts, an account's posts and mentions, quotes and reposts, counts, trends and news. That access is read-only and does not sign in as you. For most small-business jobs, like watching mentions or finding people asking for your service, this is enough.
For your own DMs, bookmarks or timeline, use the X plugin
Add the X plugin from Connect apps and sign in with X. xAI lists its tools as searching posts, reading timelines, checking mentions, trends and bookmarks. Posting is not on that list, so don't plan on it. When X needs you to sign in again, the Bot shows a reconnect card.
If x.com blocks the Bot's browser
Don't try to get around it. Cursor's help says some sites block traffic from cloud computers. Two documented options: 1. Take over the Bot's computer and sign in yourself. 2. Turn on Route traffic through this computer in Settings > Computer, so sites see your own connection. It works while the desktop app is open.
Making a new business X account
Do it yourself. Sign-up codes, two-factor codes and CAPTCHAs are human steps. xAI says to use a computer takeover for these and never paste a code into chat.
Keep posting in your hands
Have the Bot draft posts and replies, then post them yourself. Before an action it can't undo, such as posting, a Bot checks your messages for approval. Add an Ask first rule for publishing in Settings > General > Auto-review. Our example prompt: "Every weekday at 9:00 AM, search public X for people in [my city] asking for [my service]. List the 5 best posts with links and draft a short, helpful reply for each. Do not post, like or follow anything."

No sales pitch, no bio CTA, no link unless they asked for one. Skip political, medical, legal or heated threads. I rewrite and post myself. Never post, like, repost, follow or DM for me.
