Tag @bot on X: send a post to your Grok Bot (and why @bot stays quiet)
Updated ยท by Rosh Perera
Tag @bot in a post or reply on X and that post goes to your Grok Bot as a task. @bot answers with a short reply confirming your Grok Bot has the request, your main Bot works on its cloud computer, and the results stay in that Bot's conversation in the Grok Bot app (xAI's Tag @bot docs). If @bot told you to sign up, said Grok Bot isn't set up yet, or said nothing at all, the fix is below. Facts come from xAI's Tag @bot docs and the Grok Bot changelog, checked 19 Oct 2026. We're an independent site, not part of xAI.

What you need before tagging works
A Grok account with your X account connected: on grok.com, open Settings โ Account and choose Connect next to ๐ Account. Grok Bot access on that same Grok account. At least one Bot of your own, because Bots that someone shares with you can't take tagged requests. And an X account based in a region where tagging is available (xAI's Tag @bot docs). If your access comes from a SuperGrok subscription, link it as xAI's Get started docs describe.
How to tag @bot
Reply to a post or thread, or write your own post, and tag @bot with the job. xAI's example is a reply like "@bot summarize this thread and send the key points to my Slack". Your Bot receives your post, the post you replied to, and any post either of them quotes, including still photos. The first time a request goes through, X sends you a notification that tagged requests start work automatically and use your Grok Bot usage (xAI's Tag @bot docs).
What each @bot reply means
A short line saying it sent your request to your Grok Bot: your main Bot has the task, so open Grok Bot to follow the work. "Sign up for Grok Bot": no Grok account is connected to the X account you posted from, so connect your X account on grok.com and tag @bot again. "Grok Bot isn't set up yet": your accounts are connected but you don't have a Bot of your own yet, so create a Bot and tag @bot again (xAI's Tag @bot docs).
When @bot says nothing
If @bot doesn't reply, your Bot didn't get the request. The documented causes: your X account is in a region where tagging isn't available yet; you replied in a thread that already includes @bot but didn't tag @bot yourself; the post also tags @grok; the post, the post it replies to or a quoted post has a video or GIF; the post doesn't pass internal moderation; or Grok Bot isn't linked to your Grok account, or your weekly usage is used up (xAI's Tag @bot docs).
Check your region
Tagging works for X accounts based in most countries. It isn't yet available for accounts based in Australia, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway. @bot goes by the country X has on record for your account, so your current location and any VPN have no effect. If X lists only a broader region for your account, such as South Asia, or no country at all, tagging isn't available yet either (xAI's Tag @bot docs).
You don't need the X plugin for this
The X for Grok Bot plugin is optional. It lets your Bot search posts, read timelines, check mentions and use trends and bookmarks, and @bot forwards requests with or without it (xAI's Tag @bot docs). Bots can also search X and read posts and profiles without you connecting an X account (Grok Bot changelog).
Good small-business jobs to tag
Tag @bot under a post you want handled later: summarise a thread for your team, save a prospect's question so the Bot drafts a reply for you in the app, or collect posts for next week's content. @bot posts only the confirmation on X; the work stays in your Bot's conversation (xAI's Tag @bot docs). Our lead finder on X template and X content calendar template give the Bot a routine to go with it. Not sure what your Bot's main job should be? Ready-made use cases
- 01Find buyers asking for help on X
The agent searches X for people describing the exact problem you solve and drafts a helpful reply for each.
~5h/week ยท estimate - 02Daily X posts from your real work
The agent drafts daily posts from what you actually did (commits, wins, calls) so you post consistently.
~4h/week ยท estimate - 03One daily list of drafts to approve
Your bots hold every email, message and post they write as a draft. Once a day (or once a week) you get one numbered list and answer approve, edit or reject for each. Nothing goes out unapproved.
~1h/week ยท estimate
Example: Grok Bot setup
Grok Bot routine: Find buyers asking for help on X Schedule: Daily 10:00 Every day, search X for posts from the last 24h where people ask for help with [my service] or complain about [problem I solve]. Skip bots and competitors. Give me the top 10 with link, why they're a fit, and a helpful non-salesy reply draft. Never post without my OK. Rules: draft first, never send or post anything external without my approval. Keep summaries short.

Setup steps
- On grok.com, open Settings โ Account and choose Connect next to ๐ Account (xAI's Tag @bot docs).
- Check that the same Grok account has Grok Bot access and at least one Bot of your own.
- Reply to a thread with @bot and a short job, such as summarising it.
- Look for @bot's confirmation, then open Grok Bot to see the work.
- If @bot stays quiet, go through the documented causes above, starting with your region.
Keep these human
- Tagged requests start work automatically and use your Grok Bot usage (xAI's Tag @bot docs). Tag on purpose, not on every post you like.
- Your tag is public. Keep customer names, prices and private details out of the post, and give those to your Bot in the app.
- Keep Ask first rules for sending and posting in Settings โ General โ Auto-review, so tagged work never sends anything without your OK (xAI's Approvals docs).
- Start in draft mode: the agent prepares, you approve, then you loosen the leash routine by routine.

FAQ
Why does @bot tell me to sign up when I already use Grok Bot?
That reply means no Grok account is connected to the X account you posted from (xAI's Tag @bot docs). On grok.com, open Settings โ Account and choose Connect next to ๐ Account on the Grok account that has your Grok Bot access, then tag @bot again.
Why doesn't @bot reply at all?
Your Bot didn't get the request. The documented causes: tagging isn't available in your X account's region yet, the post also tags @grok, it or a post it replies to or quotes has a video or GIF, you didn't tag @bot yourself in a thread that already includes it, the post didn't pass moderation, or Grok Bot isn't linked or your weekly usage is used up (xAI's Tag @bot docs).
Does tagging @bot work in the UK or EU?
Not yet. xAI lists Australia, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway as not yet available. It goes by the country X has on record for your account, so a VPN doesn't change it (xAI's Tag @bot docs).
Will my Bot post the results on X?
No. @bot posts only the confirmation on X. The work and its results stay in that Bot's conversation in the Grok Bot app (xAI's Tag @bot docs).
Can I create a Bot by tagging @bot?
No. Create your first Bot in the Grok Bot app. If you don't have one, @bot replies that Grok Bot isn't set up yet (xAI's Tag @bot docs). Our first-day fixes guide covers getting started.
