Can I use up my leftover Grok Bot usage before the weekly reset?

Updated · by Rosh Perera

Yes, but plan it, because unused weekly usage is simply lost. Cursor's help says "Unused included usage does not roll over on either kind of plan." Check your reset date and what's left under Usage at grok.com/dashboard, keep a list of low-priority jobs, and run them the day before the reset. We found no documented way for a Bot to read your usage meter itself, so you check the meter and decide. Checked 21 Oct 2026 against Cursor help and docs.x.ai. We're an independent site, not part of xAI.

How do you use up Grok Bot usage before the reset?

  • Why it's worth doing

User report: one owner asked for a way for a Bot to "check its own usage percentage as well as when it resets" so they could run low-priority projects the day before the reset (leftover usage report). Since included usage doesn't carry over, whatever is left at the reset is gone. Good leftover jobs are ones you want done but never get to: tidying files, research, first drafts of next month's posts, a backlog of reports.

  • Find your reset date and what's left

On The X Subscription, open Usage at grok.com/dashboard. Cursor's help says "It shows how much of your weekly pool you've used, the next reset date, and your prepaid credit." In the app, Settings > Usage & Billing shows weekly usage, and xAI's Settings docs say "the account menu can show Weekly usage at a glance".

  • Keep a leftover list

Our tip: keep one note or Drive doc called Leftover jobs, ordered by value, each with a clear finished result. Pick jobs that only make drafts or files, nothing that sends, pays or deletes, so a rushed end-of-week run can't do harm. xAI's docs say to "Require approval for sending, purchasing, deleting, publishing, or changing production systems."

  • Run it the day before the reset

By hand: the day before your reset, check the meter, then ask one Bot to work through the list from the top and stop after a set number of jobs. On a schedule: ask a Bot in chat to set a routine (Cursor's Routines help). Our example, with Thursday changed to the day before your reset: "Every Thursday at 2:00 PM, work through my Leftover jobs doc from the top. Make drafts and files only. Stop after three jobs and list what you finished." Cursor's help says "A new routine waits for its next scheduled time. It doesn't run when it's created." So set it up early, and try it once with Test on a small, safe input.

  • Don't tip into paid credit

Past your included pool, usage is paid. xAI's docs: "After a seat uses up its included weekly usage, any further first-party usage is Additional Usage, paid from additional usage credits bought with top-ups." So leave a margin, and if you have credit or Auto Top-up, set a cap first: "To put a hard stop on paid Additional Usage, set a monthly additional usage limit." (xAI's Spending caps docs). "Turning Auto Top-up off stops new automatic charges." (xAI's Prepaid balance docs). On The X Subscription the pool is shared with Grok and Cursor, so leave room for anything you still need before the reset.

  • Can the Bot check its own usage?

We found no documented way for a Bot to read your usage meter in xAI's docs or Cursor's help (checked 21 Oct 2026). The meter lives in Usage at grok.com/dashboard and in Settings > Usage & Billing. So don't rely on a Bot to stop itself at a percentage. That's why the example routine stops after a fixed number of jobs, and why you check the meter before it runs. Planning the whole week is easier in our usage planner.

What should stay safe?

  • Leftover runs should make drafts and files only. Keep sending, paying and deleting behind your approval.
  • Leave a margin before the reset. Past the pool, usage is paid from credit (xAI's Usage limits docs).

FAQ

Does unused Grok Bot usage roll over to next week?

No. Cursor's help says unused included usage does not roll over.

When does my Grok Bot usage reset?

Check Usage at grok.com/dashboard. It shows the next reset date.

Can my Bot check its own usage before it runs?

We found no documented way. Check the meter yourself, and have the routine stop after a set number of jobs.

Will a leftover routine spend my prepaid credit?

It can if it runs past your included pool. Set a monthly additional usage limit first (xAI's Spending caps docs).
