Automation time audit: write down the job before you hand it to a bot
The hard part of automating a job is often writing down what the job actually is. Name one job, list each step (what you do, in which app, the decision you make, and how many minutes it takes you), then mark which steps a bot can draft, which need your OK and which stay with you. You get a clean job description to copy, your own weekly time total, and a Grok Bot routine prompt that asks for your OK before anything is sent.
We're an independent site, not part of xAI. Everything runs in your browser: nothing you type is saved, sent to us or shared, and it's gone when you leave the page.
One job, in a few words. Example: chase unpaid invoices, answer booking requests, send the weekly report.
3. List each step, in order
Write what you actually do, not what you wish happened. One action per step.
4. Mark each step
- Bot can draft: The bot does the work and leaves the result as a draft or a note for you. Nothing leaves your business.
- Needs your OK: The bot prepares it, then stops and asks you before it sends, posts, pays or changes anything.
- Keep human: You keep doing this step yourself. The bot only lists what you need for it.

FAQ
What is an automation time audit?
A written list of one job, step by step: what you do, which tool or app you use, the decision you make at each step, and how many minutes it takes you. You mark each step as one a bot can draft, one that needs your OK, or one you keep. The result is a job description you can hand to a bot or a person, plus your own weekly time total for that job.
Why write the job down before automating it?
Because a bot can only follow what you can describe. Our first-week plan starts the same way: pick one job and write it down in one sentence, saying what it does, when, and where the result goes. Listing the steps shows which parts are routine and which need your judgment. If you haven't picked the job yet, start with the First 3 bots planner.
What do Bot can draft, Needs your OK and Keep human mean?
Bot can draft: the bot does the work and leaves a draft or a note for you, and nothing leaves your business. Needs your OK: the bot prepares it, then stops and asks before it sends, posts, pays or changes anything. Keep human: you keep doing that step, and the bot lists what you need for it. Start with more steps on Needs your OK than you think you need, and loosen them one at a time once the drafts are right.
Is the weekly time total accurate?
It's your own arithmetic: the minutes you entered for each step, added up, times how often you do the job. We don't measure anything or add our own estimates, and a bot won't save all of it, because steps you keep or approve still take some of your time.
How do I turn my steps into a Grok Bot routine?
Copy the Grok Bot prompt and paste it into a chat with the Bot that should do the job. Grok Bot sets up a routine when you ask in chat, and Cursor's Grok Bot help says to open the routine and check When to run afterward. A test run does real work, so test it with a safe example. Back up the approval step with an Ask first rule, as our Grok Bot approvals guide explains, then check the prompt with the routine checker.
Is anything I type saved or sent?
No. The page works in your browser only. Nothing is saved, sent to us or shared, and it's gone when you leave or reload the page. Copy the job description and prompt before you go.
