Grok Bot Shopify connector: what it can do in your store, and what stays in your admin
Updated · by Rosh Perera
Shopify's own connector works in Grok Bot as well as in Grok. Once you approve access, a Bot can look up orders, check stock, add and edit products, build collections and create discount codes from a chat (Shopify Help Center). It can't do everything. One owner on X this week said a bulk upload to Shopify was blocked and they had to finish it themselves. This guide covers installing it in the right app, choosing how much access to give, what it can and can't change, and three safe store jobs to start with. Shopify facts come from Shopify's Help Center, and Grok Bot facts from xAI's plugin listing, xAI's Grok Bot docs and Cursor's Grok Bot help, checked 19 Oct 2026. We're an independent site, not part of xAI or Shopify.

Install it in Grok Bot, not just in Grok
Grok and Grok Bot are separate products, and the Shopify connector works in both. Connecting it on Grok's connectors page doesn't install it for Grok Bot. In the Grok Bot app, open Connect apps, search for Shopify and add it (Shopify Help Center). xAI's plugin listing calls it Shopify Merchant for Grok Bot, published by Shopify (xAI's Shopify plugin listing). When Grok Bot asks you to Authorize, finish the Shopify sign-in in your browser, then check that the plugin shows under Installed. Added means installed, not signed in, so if a Bot says Shopify is missing, open the plugin and choose Authenticate (Grok Bot help: Connect plugins).
Choose how much access to give
Connecting takes two confirmations, and you're sent to your Shopify admin to approve the data access the connector asks for. Some access is read-only, while write access lets it edit data and act for you. You can decline a request you're not comfortable with, and the connector can't do more than the staff account it acts through (Shopify Help Center). Approve carefully: you can't lower an access level later. To give it less, uninstall the integration from your Shopify admin and install it again, which is also how you revoke it (Shopify Help Center). It connects one store at a time. To switch, ask it to connect a different store, then start a new conversation, because an older one can keep asking for the store you left (Shopify Help Center).
What it can do in your store
Products: create one with a title, description, price and variants, update titles, descriptions, images, prices or SKUs, and set up to 50 products at a time to active, draft or archived. Collections: manual ones, or smart ones built from rules. Inventory: check stock for every variant across your locations, and set a quantity at one location with a reason such as received or damaged. It reads the current count first, so an update stops safely if the count changed. Discount codes: percentage-off only, and it creates new codes rather than changing old ones. Orders, customers and analytics are read-only: it lists up to 50 recent orders, opens one for its tracking, and answers sales questions (Shopify Help Center). Pages, menus and blogs go through the Shopify Admin API, and the connector asks you to confirm before it changes them (Shopify Help Center).
What stays in your Shopify admin
Some actions are blocked even when you approve write access: refunds, cancelling or capturing orders, marking orders as paid, returns and gift cards. It can't edit, publish or delete your live theme. To change the design, duplicate the theme, let the Bot edit the copy and publish it yourself. It can't change your plan, payments, taxes or domains, and editing an order or a customer record stays in your admin (Shopify Help Center). Shopify's own advice is plain: your Shopify admin stays the main place to manage your business, and the connector doesn't replace it (Shopify Help Center).
Why a bulk upload stops halfway
The connector changes items one at a time, so a large batch can stop partway, and some actions cover only a limited number of items. If a batch doesn't finish, complete it in your Shopify admin (Shopify Help Center). That matches what owners are reporting. For a big catalogue change, ask the Bot to prepare the changes as a list you check, then let it work through them in small batches, or make the change yourself in your Shopify admin.
Get the change, not a set of instructions
Name Shopify in your request and check that the connector is on for the conversation. If it's off, or you don't name Shopify, you may get steps to follow in your admin instead of the change itself. Ask one thing at a time; analytics questions work best when they're short and specific (Shopify Help Center). In Grok Bot, store data comes back as text rather than the tables and charts Grok shows (Shopify Help Center). If you named Shopify, the connector is on and you still get general advice, Shopify's help says that points to connector access rather than your store (Shopify Help Center). Open Connect apps, choose Your plugins, check Shopify is listed under Installed, then open it and choose the authentication action again (xAI's Troubleshooting docs).
Three store jobs to start with
These are our own examples, not Shopify's or xAI's. First, a morning stock check: "Using Shopify, list every variant with fewer than 5 in stock at any location. Don't change anything." Second, a weekly sales note: "Using Shopify, show my total sales for the last 7 days by product, then my top 3 products." Third, product drafts: "Using Shopify, add these three products with these prices and specs, then set all three to draft so nothing goes live." Do each one by hand until the result is right, then save it as a skill and give it a schedule (our skills vs routines guide). Our listing descriptions and KPI digest templates have prompts to start from. Not sure which store jobs to hand over first? Our free What should my bot do? planner picks three in 5 quick questions.

Setup steps
- In the Grok Bot app, open Connect apps, search for Shopify and add it (Shopify Help Center).
- Sign in to your Shopify admin and read the data access it asks for before you approve it (Shopify Help Center).
- Check that Shopify shows under Installed and isn't marked Needs auth (Grok Bot help: Connect plugins).
- Start read-only: ask "Using Shopify, show me my 10 most recent orders."
- Add an Ask first rule for store changes under Settings → General → Auto-review (xAI's Approvals docs).
- Run one read-only store check every day for a week before you let a Bot change products or stock.
Keep these human
- Every product, stock or discount change is live in your store as soon as it runs. Ask the Bot to show the change first, and add an Ask first rule under Settings → General → Auto-review (xAI's Approvals docs).
- Installed connectors are account-wide, so every one of your Bots can reach your store once Shopify is connected (xAI's Computer and apps docs).
- Refunds, cancellations and unhappy customers stay with you. The connector can't refund or cancel orders anyway (Shopify Help Center).
- Once you approve sharing, that store data leaves Shopify and is governed by the AI provider's terms and privacy policy (Shopify Help Center).
- Start in draft mode: the agent prepares, you approve, then you loosen the leash routine by routine.

FAQ
Does Grok Bot work with Shopify?
Yes. Shopify's connector works in Grok and in Grok Bot. In the Grok Bot app, open Connect apps and search for Shopify, then approve access in your Shopify admin (Shopify Help Center).
I connected Shopify in Grok. Why can't my Grok Bot see my store?
Grok and Grok Bot are separate products. Grok's connectors page doesn't install the connector for Grok Bot, so add it again from Connect apps in the Grok Bot app (Shopify Help Center).
Can Grok Bot refund or cancel a Shopify order?
No. Refunds, cancelling or capturing orders, marking orders as paid, returns and gift cards are blocked even when you approve write access. Do those in your Shopify admin (Shopify Help Center).
Why did Grok Bot stop partway through a bulk Shopify update?
The connector changes items one at a time, so a large batch can stop partway, and some actions cover only a limited number of items. Finish the batch in your Shopify admin (Shopify Help Center).
Does the Shopify connector cost extra?
Shopify says standard Shopify plan pricing applies and there's no extra Shopify fee for using the connector. Grok subscription costs aren't paid to Shopify (Shopify Help Center).
Can Grok Bot manage two Shopify stores?
One at a time. Ask it to connect a different store you own and authorize it, then start a new conversation so it doesn't keep asking for the store you left (Shopify Help Center).
