Grok Bot app not connecting? Fix Needs auth, admin blocks and missing apps

Updated · by Rosh Perera

When a connected app stops working in Grok Bot, open Connect apps and check whether it shows Needs auth or Disconnected: added only means installed, so choose Authenticate and finish the sign-in in your browser. If a company Google account says Access blocked or that an admin needs to review Grok, only that admin can fix it, and reconnecting again won't help. Every step here is from Cursor's Grok Bot help or xAI's troubleshooting docs, and anything they don't cover is marked unverified. Logging in to websites on the Bot's computer is a different problem; see our website logins guide. Grok Bot facts here come from xAI's Grok Bot docs, its Use cases page and changelog, and Cursor's Grok Bot help, checked 20 Oct 2026. Not sure which apps you need? What to hand to an agent first

  • 1. Added isn't the same as signed in

Cursor's help: "Added means the app is installed, not that you are signed in." Open the app and choose Authenticate (Authorize on the phone) if it shows Needs auth or Disconnected (Grok Bot help: Connect apps). Then ask the Bot to try the task again. Not sure the app is supported at all? Check it with our connector checker.

  • 2. The sign-in page didn't finish

"If sign-in doesn't finish, choose Reconnect on the app, or Reopen on the in-chat card, to bring the sign-in page back. Confirm the app appears under Installed." (Grok Bot help: Connect apps). Finish the sign-in with the account you mean to use: "App connections belong to the same account you used to sign in to Grok Bot."

  • 3. A plugin won't install or authenticate

xAI's steps: open Connect apps, choose Your plugins and confirm the plugin is listed under Installed; reopen its detail page and choose the authentication action; complete authorization with the intended account; return and retry. "If authentication was revoked in the source service, remove and reconnect the plugin." Some connectors need an organization-provided variable or administrator configuration (xAI's Troubleshooting docs).

  • 4. Disabled by team admin

If you use Grok Bot through a Cursor team, "your Cursor team admin controls which apps are available. If an app is disabled, ask your admin to enable it." On Teams and Enterprise plans, team-provided plugins may be required or restricted by an admin (Grok Bot help: Connect apps, xAI's Settings docs).

  • Personal Gmail says "This app is blocked"

Reported on Cursor's official forum on 28 Aug 2026: connecting a personal Google account through the Gmail plugin showed Google's message "This app is blocked. The app tried to access sensitive info in your Google Account." A Cursor support engineer flagged it to the team, and on 29 Aug the reporter wrote: "This seems to be resolved now after the app update today." (Cursor forum: Grok Bot Unable To Authenticate via Gmail Plugin). If you still see it, update the app first, using xAI's steps: "To update the app, open Settings → Updates → Check for Updates. If an update is ready, choose Restart to Update." (xAI's Troubleshooting docs). Then authorize Gmail again in Connect apps. Unverified: Cursor's help and xAI's docs don't name this error, so if it comes back after an update, contact support instead of reconnecting again. It's a different message from a company account's Access blocked, below.

  • 5. Google says Access blocked or admin review

Grok Bot signs in to Google as Grok, not Cursor. On a company account, Grok may need approval in the Google Admin console: Security, Access and data control, API controls, Manage third-party app access, add Grok and set it to Trusted. "A personal Gmail account does not need a company admin." And "Changing browsers or connecting the app again does not clear a Google admin block." (Grok Bot help: Connect apps). Our Gmail authentication guide covers Gmail in more detail.

  • 6. It connected, but can't do the job

"It can do only what that account can already do in that service. It cannot raise your access, and it cannot change sharing." A Sheets file shared as Viewer stays view-only, and Slack posts only where the connected user can post (Grok Bot help: Connect apps). To connect another account for the same app, open it in Connect apps and choose Add Another Account under Accounts (Grok Bot help: How-to).

  • Known issues with no fix on your side

Cursor lists some: Zoom authorization from the desktop app fails with error 4700, and "There is no workaround for now." A SharePoint admin-consent error (AADSTS50011) has a workaround: connect with Delegated permissions (Grok Bot help: Connect apps). Unverified: for apps or errors not named in the official help, we found no documented fix, so don't keep reconnecting. Collect the details and contact support.

  • Contact support

Cursor's help: "How do I contact Grok Bot support? Email hi@cursor.com" (Grok Bot help: Get help). Include the app, the account email, the exact error, a screenshot, the time and time zone, and the request ID if shown. "Do not include passwords, one-time codes, private keys, or secret values." (xAI's Troubleshooting docs).

  • Start from a template, not a blank page

xAI's Use cases page lists 56 jobs and its official Marketplace lists 90 public templates, as of 20 Oct 2026 (our Grok Bot template stats page). Our templates page has drafts-first versions with copy-ready prompts, and our free What should my bot do? planner picks a first job for a business.

Ready-made use cases

  1. 01Inbox triage with drafted replies
The agent sorts your inbox into reply / FYI / ignore and drafts replies in your voice for you to approve.
    ~5h/week · estimate
  2. 02One daily list of drafts to approve
Your bots hold every email, message and post they write as a draft. Once a day (or once a week) you get one numbered list and answer approve, edit or reject for each. Nothing goes out unapproved.
    ~1h/week · estimate

Example: Grok Bot setup

Grok Bot routine: Inbox triage with drafted replies
Schedule: Twice daily 9:00 and 15:00

Twice a day, go through new emails. Label each as Reply, FYI or Ignore. For Reply, write a draft in my voice (short, friendly, direct) and save it as a draft, never send. Send me a list of drafts to approve and any FYIs worth knowing.

Rules: draft first, never send or post anything external without my approval. Keep summaries short.

Setup steps

  1. Open Connect apps and find the app. If it shows Needs auth or Disconnected, choose Authenticate.
  2. If the sign-in page didn't finish, choose Reconnect and finish with the right account.
  3. For a plugin, check Your plugins, then Installed, and re-run its authentication. If access was revoked, remove and reconnect it.
  4. If it says Disabled by team admin or Access blocked, ask your Cursor team admin or Google admin.
  5. Still failing? Email hi@cursor.com with the app, account, exact error, screenshot, time and request ID.

Keep these human

  • A connected app is available to every Bot on the account: "Disconnect Gmail if a bot should not use that mailbox." (Grok Bot help: Connect apps).
  • Connect only the apps a job needs, with the least access that does the job.
  • Never paste a password or one-time code in chat. Sign in yourself with Take over, then choose I'm done (xAI's Approvals docs).
  • Never put passwords, codes or secret values in a support request (xAI's Troubleshooting docs).
  • Start in draft mode: the agent prepares, you approve, then you loosen the leash routine by routine.

FAQ

Why does Grok Bot say my app is missing when I added it?

Added means installed, not signed in. Open the app in Connect apps and choose Authenticate if it shows Needs auth or Disconnected (Grok Bot help: Connect apps).

"Has anyone signed into their Google account on the GrokBots computer or non business access?"

For Gmail, Calendar, Drive and Sheets, connect the app in Connect apps instead of signing in on the Bot's computer. A connected app can do only what that account can already do, and it's available to every Bot on the account, so connect a business account a Bot should use.

What does "This app is blocked" mean on a personal Gmail?

Google showed it to some people connecting a personal Gmail in late August 2026, as reported on Cursor's official forum on 28 Aug. The reporter said an app update the next day fixed it. Update Grok Bot (Settings → Updates → Check for Updates), then authorize again. Official help doesn't name this error, so if it persists, email hi@cursor.com.

Why does Google say Access blocked?

On a company account, the Google admin hasn't approved Grok yet or blocks third-party apps. The admin has to trust Grok; changing browsers or reconnecting won't clear it (Grok Bot help: Connect apps).

What does Disabled by team admin mean?

Your Cursor team admin controls which apps are available. Ask them to enable it (Grok Bot help: Connect apps).

Can I connect two Gmail accounts?

xAI's Grok Bot 101 guide says you can connect multiple accounts per service, including personal and work email. In Connect apps, choose Add Another Account under the app's Accounts (Grok Bot help: How-to).

How do I contact support about a connection?

Email hi@cursor.com (Grok Bot help: Get help) with the app, account email, exact error, screenshot and request ID. Never include passwords or codes.
