Why your credit grant runs down before Grok Bot weekly usage
Updated · by Rosh Perera
If a credit grant from an event or promotion goes down while your Grok Bot weekly usage stays at 0%, that grant is set up to be used first. Cursor staff said on 16 Oct 2026 that the order depends on the credit, and that your included usage isn't lost: it's still there once the grant runs out or expires.
Our free Grok Bot usage check ranks which of your Bots and routines are most likely eating your week, with a fix prompt for each, right in your browser. Facts come from xAI's X Subscription docs and a Cursor staff reply on the official forum, checked 23 Oct 2026. We're an independent site, not part of xAI or Cursor.
Why is the credit grant used before your weekly usage?
Three kinds of usage, three meters
Weekly included usage comes with your plan, and "Your live usage view shows how much has been used and the next reset date." (xAI's Usage limits docs). Prepaid credit is money you add: "Top-ups add prepaid credit to your account." (xAI's Prepaid balance docs). Credit grants are different again: "Credit grants are separate from your prepaid credit and may be provided by certain promotions."
Why the grant goes first
Cursor staff said on the forum on 16 Oct 2026: "The order depends on the credit. Some credits only kick in after your plan's included usage runs out, and others are used first." For the event credits in that thread: "The credits from this event are set up to be used before your included usage, for both Cursor and Grok Bot." So a weekly bar at 0% while the grant drops is how that grant works, not a bug. xAI's docs don't list which grants go first (checked 23 Oct 2026).
Your weekly usage isn't lost
Cursor staff said in the same reply: "Your included usage isn't lost. It's still there once the credit runs out or expires". The weekly bar starts moving once the grant is used up or expires.
Where to see a grant and when it expires
On The X Subscription, xAI's Manage docs say: "If you've received credit grants as part of a promotion, they're listed under Credit grants on Billing & invoices, along with how much of each is left." The Prepaid balance docs add: "The expiry date for your credit grants is shown here as well." Check the date, so you know when your weekly usage takes over.
If a grant isn't being used at all
If your weekly usage runs out and a grant you expected doesn't cover the extra, check the grant is still listed with an amount left and hasn't expired, then contact support with a screenshot of Billing & invoices. Don't buy a top-up to test it.

- A grant has an expiry date. If it's used first, plan bigger jobs while it lasts, then expect your weekly usage to start moving.
