Can you set up and manage Grok Bot for a client?

Updated · by Rosh Perera

Yes, if the client owns a team plan and invites you to it. An individual plan is for one person and can't add members, while a team plan can invite you as an Admin or a Member, and you can build Team Bots their staff use. Team Bots always run in the cloud, so there's no local agent to look after on the client's machines; their staff just use the Grok Bot app. Not sure which Bots to build first for them? How do you run Grok Bot for a client?

  • Who should own the plan and billing

The client. xAI's team plan docs say: "An individual plan is for one person and doesn't support adding members. A team plan can have one person or many." When the client owns the plan, the billing, the data and the Bots stay theirs if you stop working together.

  • Getting invited

The client invites you from Members at grok.com/dashboard. xAI's steps: "Choose a Role (Member or Admin) and a Seat (Free, Premium, Super, or Ultra)." Ask for Admin only if you'll manage their seats; otherwise Member is enough. Your seat needs to be Premium, Super or Ultra to use Grok Bot, and xAI's docs say you also connect your own personal X account.

  • Building Team Bots for their staff

Set up each Bot once and publish it as a Team Bot. xAI's Team Bots docs say "A plugin that needs a sign-in uses the account of whoever is talking to the Bot.", so their staff connect their own apps and you never hold their logins. Cursor's help adds "A Team Bot reply uses the Grok Bot usage of the person it's answering."

  • Why remote management is simpler than a local agent

One builder on X said of a local setup for low-tech clients (user report): "maintaining a local Hermes setup for them would be a nightmare". With Grok Bot, "The computers Bots work on run in Cursor's cloud." (Cursor's docs), so you update a Team Bot once and every teammate gets the change.

  • What you keep and what you hand over

As the Bot's owner, "Publishing, unpublishing, and deleting the Bot stay with you." (xAI's Team Bots docs). Before the job ends, add someone at the client as a Manager so they can keep it running, and agree in writing who approves what. On pricing, see our side income guide; we don't give numbers.

Grok Bot routine: Client onboarding, with your OK on the welcome email
Schedule: On new payment

When a new client pays, draft my welcome email with the intake form and kickoff booking link and send me the draft to approve. Send it only after I approve; if I don't answer, send nothing and remind me. Create their project page in Notion from my template. If they haven't booked in 48h, tell me and draft a short nudge for my approval. (Sending the welcome email automatically once you trust the template is an optional upgrade.)

Rules: draft first, never send or post anything external without my approval. Keep summaries short.

FAQ

Can I manage a client's Grok Bot remotely?

Yes. Bots run in Cursor's cloud. Join the client's team plan with your own seat and build Team Bots there.

Should I put a client on my own Grok Bot plan?

No. An individual plan can't add members. Have the client own a team plan and invite you, so the billing and Bots stay theirs.

Which role should a client give me on their Grok Bot team?

Member is enough to build and publish Team Bots. Ask for Admin only if you'll manage their seats and invites.

Whose usage pays when the client's staff use my Team Bot?

Theirs. Cursor's help says a Team Bot reply uses the Grok Bot usage of the person it's answering.
