Why does Grok Bot still show Free after I paid? The fix order
Updated · by Rosh Perera
If you paid but Grok Bot still shows Free, first check that Grok Bot is signed in to the same account you paid on, because signing in does not link or combine accounts. Then switch or link on the web, allow up to 24 hours where Cursor's help says so, and contact support with the details below if it still says Free. Owners on X this week posted that their Cursor, X and Grok accounts showed Premium while Grok Bot showed Free, that an email never came, and that linking said their account was linked with another account. This guide gives the order to work through, from xAI's X Subscription docs and Cursor's Grok Bot help, checked 20 Oct 2026. Only xAI and Cursor can fix an account, so support is the fallback, not a failure. Want a pick for your exact business? Try our free What should my bot do? planner. Take the free 5-question quiz: your first 3 bots →Paid but Grok Bot says Free? Work through it in this order
First: does your plan include Grok Bot?
xAI's X Subscription docs say: "Grok Bot is included on Premium, Super, and Ultra plans." And: "The Plus plan doesn't include Grok Bot. To use Grok Bot, choose Premium or higher." If you're on Premium or higher, the docs say "Grok Bot is available as soon as you subscribe to or unify on one of these plans." So if you're on Premium or higher and Grok Bot still says Free, work through the account checks below.
Step 1: is Grok Bot signed in to the account you paid on?
xAI's sign-in docs say: "Signing in only authenticates you. It does not link or combine your X, Grok, or Cursor accounts or switch your plan." They also say: "If you have more than one account, confirm that you selected the intended one." If your plan or history looks missing, the docs say "You may be signed in to a different account. Sign out and try the sign-in method you used for the account before." On the plan screen after linking, Cursor's help says: "Confirm you're signed in with the same Cursor account you linked."
Step 2: paid on X or Grok? Switch on the web
xAI's docs say: "For now, the mobile apps send you to the web to switch." Start at cursor.com/unify if you pay for Cursor, or accounts.x.ai/unify if you're starting from Grok or X (xAI's X Subscription FAQ). From X, the docs say: "Starting from X doesn't include Cursor." If you have a paid Cursor plan, start from Cursor. Linking alone isn't the switch: "Linking does not switch your plan or cancel a subscription. Billing changes only after you complete an eligible checkout." After an X switch, xAI says "Linking your X account can take a little time."
Step 3: on SuperGrok or X Premium+, link and refresh
If your Grok Bot access comes from a SuperGrok or X Premium+ link on a legacy Cursor account, Cursor's help says "Link Grok Account is on the Get Started with Grok Bot page at cursor.com/bot/onboarding, and on the phone's paywall screen." On the phone, choose Link Grok Account, finish signing in to Grok in your browser, "Then choose Finished Linking? Refresh My Status." If usage didn't reset, Cursor says to confirm the subscription is active, "then allow up to 24 hours after a successful link for usage to refresh." On The X Subscription, Cursor's help says "there's nothing to link".
Don't buy a second subscription in the app
If your account already has Grok Bot access through Premium, Super or Ultra, a legacy Cursor plan, or a SuperGrok or X Premium+ link, Cursor's help says: "You should not buy a second subscription on Apple or Google Play in these cases." Sign in to the phone app with the same Cursor account instead, and the access carries over.
The sign-in email never comes
xAI's docs say "There is no separate Grok Bot login." Grok Bot uses the shared xAI sign-in path, so the fix is the sign-in flow itself. We found no xAI or Cursor page about a missing sign-up email as of 20 Oct 2026. What the docs do say: keep Grok Bot open while authentication runs in your browser, and "Start the sign-in flow again from the app and complete every browser prompt." Cursor's help adds: "Clear browser cache and cookies for cursor.com and x.ai, then sign in again in a private or incognito window." And: "If the error started recently, wait 30 to 60 minutes and retry."
Linked to another account, or stuck in a loop
Cursor's help says: "A SuperGrok or X Premium+ link is permanent." If you see an error that the Grok account is already linked to another Cursor account, it says to contact support with your Cursor account email and the Grok account email. For sign-in loops it says: "Some session and account-link failures, including looped sign-in flows, can't be fixed from your side and need our team to resolve." Before you unify, check each account: "A completed unification is permanent. It can't be undone, and Support can't undo it for you."
Still Free? Contact support
Cursor's help says: "Email hi@cursor.com." xAI's X Subscription FAQ says: "Contact support from settings." Include the email on your Grok Bot account, your Grok Bot version and platform, what you were trying to do, a screenshot of the error or plan screen, and what you already tried (Grok Bot help: Get help). For a linking problem, add the Grok account email too. Leave out passwords and one-time codes (xAI's Troubleshooting docs). Our first-day fixes guide covers the other setup snags.

What's the quick fix order?
- Check your plan is Premium, Super or Ultra: Plus doesn't include Grok Bot (xAI's X Subscription docs).
- Sign out of Grok Bot and sign back in with the exact account you paid on (xAI's sign-in docs).
- If you paid on X or Grok, switch on the web at cursor.com/unify or accounts.x.ai/unify, not in the phone app (xAI's X Subscription docs).
- On a SuperGrok or X Premium+ link, choose Link Grok Account, then Finished Linking? Refresh My Status, and allow up to 24 hours (Cursor help).
- Still Free: email hi@cursor.com with your account email, Grok Bot version, platform, a screenshot and the steps you tried (Grok Bot help: Get help).
What can't be undone?
- A completed unification is permanent, and Support can't undo it. Check each account before you confirm (xAI's X Subscription docs).
- A SuperGrok or X Premium+ link can't be unlinked or moved to another Cursor account. Sign in with the right Cursor account before you choose Link Grok Account (Cursor help).
- Don't buy a second subscription on Apple or Google Play if your account already has Grok Bot access (Cursor help).
- Leave passwords, one-time codes and secret values out of support emails (xAI's Troubleshooting docs).

FAQ
"my bot account shows free and prompts me to upgrade"
Check that Grok Bot is signed in to the same account you paid on: signing in doesn't link or combine accounts (xAI's sign-in docs). If you paid on X or Grok, switch on the web at cursor.com/unify or accounts.x.ai/unify. If it still says Free, email hi@cursor.com with a screenshot of the plan screen (Grok Bot help: Get help).
"I am not getting the email"
There is no separate Grok Bot login (xAI's docs), and we found no official page on a missing sign-up email as of 20 Oct 2026. Start the sign-in again from the app, clear cookies for cursor.com and x.ai, try a private window, and wait 30 to 60 minutes if it just started (Cursor help). Then contact support.
"it says my account is linked with another account and will not accept it"
Cursor's help says a SuperGrok or X Premium+ link is permanent and can't be moved. Contact support with your Cursor account email and the Grok account email. Don't create more accounts to get around it.
Can I unify accounts in the Grok Bot Android app?
Not if you already pay for Cursor, Grok or X. xAI's docs say: "For now, the mobile apps send you to the web to switch." Use cursor.com/unify or accounts.x.ai/unify in a browser.
"I don't get answers back from support so I am not sure how to do now"
Email hi@cursor.com, or contact support from settings, with your account email, Grok Bot version, platform, a screenshot and the steps you tried (Grok Bot help: Get help). We can't speed up a reply, but a complete first email saves a round trip.
Does the Plus plan include Grok Bot?
No. xAI's docs say: "The Plus plan doesn't include Grok Bot. To use Grok Bot, choose Premium or higher."
